Content Management Systems
What is a Content Management System?
Content Management Systems (CMS) are an important part of today's internet. A CMS allow people that are not programmers or designers to easily and efficiently display their content. There are a number of both commercial and free content management systems available, and each one has its pros and cons.
What CMS Do We Use?
We are a huge fan of the PHP/MySQL development world, and have specialized in content management systems centered around that platform. Our current favorite is Croogo (a free, open-source CMS written by Fahad Ibnay Heylaal). Other systems we have used include Drupal, Wordpress, and CMS Made Simple.
One of the major strengths of Croogo is that it was written by a programmer, based on sound development practices using an open-source framework, CakePHP. What this allows is for the ability to rapidly develop plugins and additional functionality, leveraging the strengths of a robust Model-View-Controller framework. Most of the other systems were grown from the needs of designers, and are quite a bit more challenging to develop for (though proponents of those platforms may argue otherwise).
That said, we HAVE worked with the other platforms, though it is not our first choice.
